THE EARLY DAYS OF CHANGI
and
JAPAN LODGE No 3

So impressed was I with that history that when I met the now Air Commodore Henry Probert at one of the many reunions of the RAF Changi Association of which he was President and during one rather busy session I gave him a copy of Museum Collection No.6. I further gleaned from him that he had re vamped and written another updated History of Changi which was to be published soon. I asked him if I could use passages from his earlier publication for the next installment of the Changi POW Lodge No. 1 and he readily agreed. Unfortunately Henry Probert died on Christmas Day 2007 but Iris memory and his many writings live on.

So, the following first story is Iris account of the way the island of Singapore and especially Changi has developed over the years.

It has to be remembered that this story of Changi only goes up to 1971, so it is inevitable that much of Changi and the surrounding areas has changed since then.

I can count among my memories the many exciting and pleasant times I spent in the Royal Air Force during my tour of Singapore and the Far East which lasted from 1958 to 1961.

Much of the further material for the sequel to the Changi P.O.W. Lodge No. 1 has been re-analysed by myself and found to be much of a sameness as the images in the Museum Collection No.6; to put it into another publication on its own would merely be repeating what is already there.
